Bidra med feedbackThe wait staff was very friendly and the food was from my perspective very fresh and delicious. I had curry udon, fatty tuna roll (loved it) and flying fish and octopus. (a la carte) I've already ordered again. (Also on GrubHub)
IF YOU ARE ORDERING ONLINE THROUGH THE WEBSITE, don't add a tip. This money does NOT go to the folks making your food/getting it ready for you. Please consider a cash tip when you pick it up instead. Plum House always has been and always will be myfavorite place for sushi in Rochester. Their rolls are always delicious and beautifully presented. I honestly haven't had muchelse because I love the rolls but non-sushi friends have always enjoyed their meals as well. There's parking behind therestaurant if you get lucky, or street parking as well on Monroe and on/around Oxford.
It's been a long time since I stepped into this place, and the 1st time since new owner took over years ago. Menu had similar items as everywhere else, but small details were not done too well. I'm from Japan, from a family of the sushi restauranteur ofthree generations in Tokyo. So maybe my comments are too harsh. But the most delicate parts are what makes the Japanese dishesJapanese. Gyoza pieces were very slightly under seared, steamed shumai dumplings were tossed around upside down in the dish,rolls were packed a bit too tight, and the beer was not ice cold. Still, my friend and I had good time, and we finished most ofour dishes, and the price was very modest. A convenient location, pretty good seating capacity, and you may just find this placesuper nice.
Food was very fresh. Great sushi! Also had dumplings and tempura which were awesome! Only issue was having things picked up quick, so need to watch sauces etc. if you want to keep using them.
I'm giving two stars because the sushi I ordered here was quite good I got the spicy crab roll and another with salmon and fish eggs for my husband, which we enjoyed. I had never had tempura in restaurant quality and was exited to try it as well as softshell crab app. The tempura was horribly greasy and the shrimp inside was overcooked, although overall it had good flavor. Thesoft shell crab was nothing short of disgusting, over cooked over breaded and the breading was panko which i found odd. Therewas more breading then there was crab and the crab has a horrible bitter flavor. I finished my meal even though I was notsatisfied I felt bad wasting it seeing how I spent so much on it and oh boy it was quite the price tag which I was prepared for,I bought sushi and shrimp tempura and softshell crab, what can I say I wanted to try something new and indulge a bit. What I wasnot prepared for was the gut wrenching food poisoning that was to follow and wake me while I slept kept me up all night and hadto miss half of work the next morning, my god I was in pain. Most likely this originated from the quantus amounts of oil thefood was cooked in and perhaps the shrimps inside not being very fresh it could have also been the soft shell crab which to metasted rancid although who knows ive never had it before so perhaps thats just how it is. I understand that's how tempura ismade but I've had fried food and not had awful food poisoning like I did eating at the Plum house.
