Menu has changed and new menu not as good as previous
We had a lovely evening, great service and delicious food
I have been to The Cunning Man a few times, almost always at the weekend. This is usually when cycling along the canal, and stopping there for a drink or pint. Once I stopped there for a Roast lunch and it was AMAZING. Roast beef, good gravy, good potatoes, etc. The pub was full, and it 's a lovely atmosphere. On this occasion, this was my Anniversary, and so I took my partner there for lunch. The restaurant was almost empty, a few tables with a few older parties there. Upon arriving we were shown to a sorry looking table for just two people. Particularly for my anniversary it wasn 't suitable, and with an entire restaurant empty it felt stingy. There were two waiters, but regardless, the service was slow. It took a while to grab someone 's eye to grab the bill too. I had the special, Moroccan Lamb. Sadly, this was actually a few lamb chops, with some Moroccan quinoa/couscous on the side. Which was quite disappointing really. My partner had the Wagyu burger with chips. The chips were really good, and the burger looked fine. Apparently it tasted OK, but nothing special. (We 'd had Waygu steak somewhere else recently, and so were keen to have it again. So perhaps partly because of my previous wonderful experience here, I 'm annoyed I have to post a lacklustre review. My advice is not to come here for a business/quick lunch. And perhaps stay away from the specials, and the Wagyu burger. Regardless, this place is an absolute treat at the weekends!
We had a first class lunch with first class service in very nice surroundings,in the summer this Pub must be lovely being on the Kennet and Avon Canal with nice garden.
