All-you-can eat appetizers and desserts are on offer at this island institution along with, of course, fresh saltwater boiled lobster! The You Gotta Eat Here book says this is a must-do when in PEI!
**Pros:** The food was excellent. **Cons:** Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the reservation policy and service issues. My wife called in the morning to book a table for our family of seven, but we were informed that reservations were only accepted for parties of eight or more. We were advised to arrive early since it tends to get busy around 5:30 PM, so we opted to show up at 5:00 PM to avoid the crowd. Upon arrival, however, we were told there wasn’t a table large enough for us and that we would need to split up. As a family with three young girls aged 12, 10, and 7, along with two grandparents, we wanted to stay together. To eat as a family, we were given the option to wait at the bar or return later. When we inquired about the wait time, we were told they couldn’t provide specifics but recommended coming back at 5:45 PM. I mentioned that we had tried to make a reservation earlier but was met with a stern "we don’t take reservations for less than eight people." I was disappointed by the lack of empathy and the woman turned her back on us and walked away. When we returned at 5:40 PM, there were still no tables available. We decided to wait at the bar and ended up waiting a full hour to be seated. For families with young children, waiting this long is far from ideal. The rule of not accepting reservations for parties under eight felt arbitrary and inflexible, causing unnecessary frustration and a long wait for our family. Moving on to the service, our waitress was friendly and seemed to be trying her best, but the restaurant was clearly understaffed given the crowd, making the atmosphere chaotic and noisy. By the time we finished our meal at 8:36 PM, we had spent almost three hours since our second arrival, which included about thirty minutes waiting for mussels and another thirty for a water refill, among other delays. In summary, while the food was fantastic, the overall experience left me disappointed. This dissatisfaction compelled me to write this review and also had a direct impact on the restaurant's bottom line—we opted not to order drinks and I downgraded my meal choice by about twenty dollars (though the ham was very good!). I would rate the food a solid five, but the overall experience a one, leading to my final rating being significantly lower. Unless management revisits their reservation policies and improves staffing levels, I'd advise smaller parties of six or seven to reserve for eight and claim that one or two won’t show up; it'll likely enhance your dining experience.
The food was excellent, but the restaurant was overcrowded and quite loud. They definitely need to hire more staff, as it took about three hours to be served. The head waitress was rude and very inflexible about their policy of not accepting reservations for fewer than eight people.
The lobster dinner was outstanding! You can enjoy unlimited portions of everything else too. I particularly loved the seafood chowder and the cherry pie!
