Bidra med feedbackWe went to this restaurant at 11:10 Thursday August 17th 2017.We had passed it previously a couple of times on our way to Sauble Beach in the past. This day we decided to aim for on our way from the Seaforth area.It was a very pleasant experience. The young man led us to our table and gave us coffee and menus and went about his busy tasks. The place was not crowded at this time but was just over 1/2 full. My wife and I opted for the light breakfast, ( I had an extra egg with mine.) It came with sausages and toast and nicely made home fries, not the greasy ones you sometimes get elsewhere. Coffee of course, how ever much you wanted. A large stocked container piled of 6 different kinds of spreads for the toast was on the table. The young man serving was going back and forth with coffee and orders etc, obviously liked his job. He was pleasant and although busy explained what his green armband and card was for when we asked. We will definitely always go there from now on. There is even a shelf of used books in the little foyer. (Take a book, leave a book or just take one. They promote reading) The server did not have a uniform but was casually dressed in jeans and shirt. Very nice time there. I am 80,years old, and my wife 71. Our bill came to $20. Well worth it.
Went on Thursday for seniors night. The specials were a good price but the gravy was from a can and the local vegetables were frozen peas and corn. Jello for desert was a nostalgic touch. If you're looking for a good reasonable meal this is the place. Too bad they didn't have more true homemade on the menu
We were staying with friends in their cottage for the week and we told them about Aunt Mabel's, not believing they had never been there before . We had been bragging about the food . We went for supper . The restaurant was full ,as usual which we took to be a good sign, since its been over a year since we were there last . Our server was super, told us the days specials and said the had a new chef, so the food was " amazing " .I ordered the Salisbury steak, described as " we start with the leanest beef and add our own special seasonings. " or words to that effect . our friends ordered a variety of items . When the meal came, the freshest of meat was actually two charred hamburger patties, ( the petal shaped burgers we buy at M and M . a scoop of mashed potato so dense it was like stucco, and just as tasteless . So, So disappointed with the food this time . Especially since we recommended it to other people . We spoke to some other people in the parking lot before we left to go back to Sauble Beach and the cottage . They were also not happy with the meals they had ordered . The new chef isn't going to help, if he serves meals like t he one I had. The gentleman we were speaking to had ordered the rotisserie chicken dinner and waited 25 minutes before the server came back to tell him they were out of chicken . He wasn't at all happy . As good as it was ,last time, is as bad as it was this time . Our friends meals were described as " ok " . odd soups, cream of dill pickle ? Not sure we would drive back from Cambridge again .
Just a great, quick breakfast special, out for $20 plus tip. Two eggs over with bacon, home fries, toast and a coffee; my lovely wife had the brown. It was just what you expected, right, hot, and good. I’m sorry Aunt Mabel is no longer with us but I am sure that she is smiling that her customers are leaving happy and satisfied. It was another happy moment in the summer of Ontario.
We are in town for the Huron Fringe Birding Festival. We stopped in Aunt Mabel's for a quick dinner. Lovely decor. Especially loved the beautiful art displayed all over restaurant. We both had the cod dinner. Best cod I have ever eaten! Tasted like it had just been caught. It's difficult to get fish that isn't encased in lots of heavy gooey batter-this was just gorgeous--sans batter- just lightly sauteed in lemon, butter and herbs. The place got really busy--but was handled very well by staff, who were very professional friendly and efficient. Certainly worth the drive from Oshawa. Looking forward to having the cod next year while attending the festival! Wish I could give it more than a Five star rating!
