This hole in the wall on V Street is the best! The tacos are fabulous. My favorites are the al pastor and the chorizo. They offer vegetarian options as well. There is a cute little patio at the back which is a pleasant place to enjoy the food. The staff is very friendly and super helpful.

Great local Mexican food! The place is really small and really hard to find, even if its location is downtown. The food is great, simple taquitos with a double corn tortilla. Tacos al pastor were well done and even carnita tacos. My favorite were the steak tacos! They even have Mexican coca cola meaning: with real sugar in it and not concentrated like in US bottles. Before I leave Washington, I will definitely go back!

Before I moved to DC I visited Mexico City and acquired a slight obsession with street style tacos. Since I moved to the U street area I eat at Tacos El Chilango about once per week to keep this obsession going as it’s the most authentic I have come across in the US. In addition to the quality food, the staff that work there are fantastic and are always so gracious. This would be a great hole in the wall for any tourist or local to find!
