Bidra med feedbackThe restaurant features a long bar and has a cozy, somewhat cramped atmosphere. If you're looking for a table, I recommend visiting as a group of three; otherwise, you may find yourself seated at the small corner tables or at the end of a larger party's table. There are two bars, and the service is quick, with food served hot. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including some vegetarian options. I particularly enjoyed the smoked trout, while my wife, who doesn't eat fish, was pleased with her chicken burger. I also tried the mussels Alagash, which were probably the least flavorful of the bunch, but still well-prepared. All dishes come with perfectly seasoned French fries, which are delicious enough to earn a five-star rating on their own. I would definitely return to this restaurant. The beer selection is impressive! Just a heads-up: they don’t take reservations, so if you want to sit at the bar, you should either arrive as a group of three or be prepared to squeeze into a tight space if you're alone or in a pair.
As I've mentioned in my previous reviews, this is one of the best bars in all of Philadelphia. This time, the bartender seemed a bit inexperienced at first. He was somewhat standoffish, but after a while, he opened up and turned out to be quite friendly. I think he may have been a bit put off by one of my friends who moved a table too close to ours while we were restaurant hopping. Regardless, everything else was fantastic, and I highly recommend Monks. A tip for future visitors: be extra friendly to the bartenders, as they can be a bit wary of tourists. Also, keep in mind that they are CLOSED on Mondays. I only gave four stars this time because the bartender was a bit rude initially. However, he lightened up once he realized we were generous tippers. Best regards, k. David.
Monk's Cafe is a place you simply have to visit. Whenever I find myself in Philadelphia, I make sure to eat here. The beer selection is impressive, and the moules and burgers (which are juicy and cooked to perfection) are fantastic. It tends to get busy quickly, so there’s usually a wait, but it's definitely worth it. There's a cozy bar both in the front and back, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic! If you're looking for a trendy atmosphere and a great selection of beers, this is the spot for you! Bartender Cass was incredible—knowledgeable and provided excellent hospitality! The menu is wonderfully eclectic. I tried the chicken liver mousse, which was amazing! I like to think of it as the budget-friendly version of foie gras! I will definitely be back. Follow me @discoverdinedrink!
The only thing I find frustrating about this place is that they don’t accept reservations, but that actually guarantees that everyone there really wants to be. The food is incredible; I've never had a bad meal. Monk’s boasts the best and most diverse selection of rotating taps and bottles in the area. Looking for something special? Monk’s probably has it or knows where to get it. I'm a huge burger fan, but I also can’t get enough of their fries. I don’t know what they do to those little treats, but I could easily polish off two whole baskets by myself, and that dipping sauce is simply addictive. The mussels are also fantastic and never overly salty.
