Gertie's - Peterborough

As always, the food was good. But what pulled this rating down was the wait staff. The restaurant was fairly quiet, with many empty tables, but she spoke as though she was in a rush. I had the sense that she wasn't fully there... quite unlike other experiences we've had at Gerti's. And my sense seemed to be true when she switched our drinks as she put them down on the table... as though she hadn't paid attention when I asked for water... and my husband discussed beer with her at some length. Could be an honest mistake, but along with the clipped style, it was a disappointing experience. But... the food was still solid.

Luckily this place was open on Good Friday. First time eating at this establishment and it won't be the last. Next time I am in Peterborough I will definitely eat here.

This was our first time at Gertie's and we loved it. The menu prices may be $1 or $2 higher than comparable restaurants, but the ambiance, service and menu choices make this small difference worth it. Our waitress was only on her second shift at the restaurant, but she was flawless, and probably the nicest waitress we have ever encountered...we could tell immediately that she was genuinely a nice young lady, and that she was giving it her all. Well done! The menu choices were widely varied, and since my food choices are restricted, I was happy to find a beet salad that (except for a slightly sweeter dressing that I am supposed to have) was excellent - goat cheese, roast chicken, walnuts, and all. They have a wide variety of artisanal beers on tap, and the ambiance is that of a small, cozy pub. In addition, the parking garage is a short walk away, and with the first hour free, and $1.50 every hour thereafter, the whole neighbourhood is easy access. Well done, Gertie's and staff!

I have visited Gerties many times and have never been disappointed. The soups are marvelous and the main courses to die for.

Ate at Gertie's 3 years ago and loved it. Stopped by again on our way through Peterborough, and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly and quick service. Club sandwich was tasty with crispy fries. Great time with great friends. Glad to see Gertie's is still going strong. Will go back for sure.
