Le cafe de la Truffe - Périgueux

We came after lunch for a coffee and ice cream. I specifically asked the waitress if it's okay to sit at the table and not eat, eat there and was said it's okay. Not long after we asked another waiter on a coffee and ice cream, we said that the tables are only for people who eat lunc when we told him about another waitress, he went to the café and started screaming at the waitress. The argument was so loud and embarrassing that we decided to leave the café. I understand that most shops in this area only happen to customers, but I can't remember, last time I felt so uncomfortable and awkward as a customer.

We decided to try a place where we have never eaten today. The food was very good, and everyone was very friendly. We ordered a la carte, calf and salmon both beautiful. Good delicious fries. People at the next table had the menu of the day for 16 euros, and it looked great. Next time we try the menu. Also good beer and quality wine through the glass.

We had lunch here yesterday with a view of the market dealers. It was interesting to sit in the window and clean it away! We decided not to have Menu du jour, but because the advertised scallops were not in the menu. I ended up with the set menu, but the starter I chose from the a la carte menu. So they were very flexible with their approach. As an appetizer, my husband's charcuterie was enormous. He didn't eat it all. Then he had a duck that was even bigger! My fish course was more moderate and ideal for me. We shared my hot chocolate dessert. The waiter was very friendly and spoke English. There was a lively buszz to the restaurant. My main criticism is the one and only toilet that was absolutely disgusting. The floor was wet and the hand washers were less than sufficient.

This cafe has the good idea to be situated in the heart of the old town. But that's it. The food is overpriced AND not good. The magret was small, the gésiers were not fresh and may not even be duck. For a quality Dordogne...experience, go to the hercule poirot restaurant.

Lovely service, simple but tasty food, excellent value in a lovely location. We had a main of a beef casserole with very well cooked pasta. Nice pear tart for afters.
