Waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged, let alone seated…. And we had booked! Menu only in Catalan !! Waitress got frustrated and stormed off when we said we couldn’t understand it. Came back 10 minutes later and asked for our choices!! We asked for rough translation we said it could be in English, French, German or even Spanish). Again she looked at us in horror. We left. As we left anther table said they wished they had done the same thing.
We enjoyed so much our meal there. The home made foie gras was so remarkable and the mushrooms filled in with sea food were outstanding. Great location and nice staff that made us feel so comfortable.
A lovely old mill converted into a very attractive and atmospheric restaurant owned and run by the family Poncelas. In Summer one has the option to eat in a glassed-in chalet built in the old mill stream in the garden. The welcome is very warm and the staff are able to speak a little English and French, so communication is easy for visitors. The food is excellent and, having visited several times, the standard never falls. At lunchtime one can select from three menus du jour where dishes are interchangeable, each priced at €40, including a bottle of excellent local Emporda wine. Or one can choose a la carte. I have not eaten in the evening. The service is professional, attentive, friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is about a kilometre out of Perelada on the old road to Figueres. Look for the signposts to the tiny village of Vilabertran if driving from either direction and follow that road. Do not take the main highway. Priced above average but well worth the money. Highly recommended.
