Bidra med feedbackAs someone who lived for a dozen years in California, I 've been to Hawai 'i plenty of times, as there are plenty of nonstop flights that are just as long as flying back East. One of many things Hawaiian that I 've come to enjoy is shave ice. When I moved to Cleveland recently, I was afraid that Hawaiian fare wouldn 't be as abundant, but I was relieved to see that there were at least a couple of shops in the region that serve shave ice. Hokulia here in Parma is one example. The name sounds familiar a national franchise, perhaps? but the syrups and offerings are extensive and authentic. As in the islands, even a junior sized boogie board cup is huge, while a small short board is a veritable mountain. Anything bigger and you 'll need to share with an entire family. The tiger 's blood and POG flavors were on point, while a snow cap a topping of sweetened condensed milk was a welcome add on. In addition to shave ice, they also have ice cream and flavored popcorn here. There 's plenty of room to spread out inside and on the exterior patio. Service from one dude who seemed to be the oldest or most experienced among the young folks working here was friendly, professional, plus genuinely apologetic when I noticed that the snow cap wasn 't added on. Others on the staff, however, looked at me like I was an alien. Sadly, giving the stare to others even if they 're 100% American is all too common here in insular Ohio. Make yourselves great instead?
Was feeling nostalgic about our recent trip to Maui so we decided to venture out to Parma to satisfy a Hawaiian shaved ice craving. It's pretty impressive that a shop like this exists at all in Ohio, with a very comprehensive selection of practically all the Hawaiian flavors I saw on the island, complete with traditional add-ons like a snow cap, li hing mui powder and coconut flakes. In addition to shaved ice, this eclectic little shop also sells a diverse range of smoothies and over 80 flavors of gourmet popcorn. Unfortunately I was disappointed by the ice texture and quality of the syrup flavors, which didn't come close to anything I tried in Hawaii. I got my go-to combo: passion fruit/lychee/guava and all of the flavors were overly sweet and artificial tasting, with only the slightest hint of actual fruit flavor. On the bright side, portions are super generous (stacked sky high) and their macadamia ice cream is delicious!
Tasty! With very personable staff. I love to have shaved ice when in Taiwan, so it's nice to have a place to tie me over in between visits. Now, it's not exactly the same, but definitely a good alternative. In fact, I think it's the best of the two shaved ice places I've been to in Cleveland (there's one in Rocky River or Westlake or something... . Better price, better portion size, better location!
Our group of 6 ordered bubble tea, shave ice, ice cream and popcorn. All were very good! We like all of the options. There is something for everyone.
First time to the new Hawaiian Ice Place. They have Ice, Ice Cream, Flavored Popcorn, flavored Nuts and smoothies. Over all pretty good. The ice cream had some unique flavors like honey dew and huckleberry. Although the ice cream was a bit soft also. The ice was good but pretty pedestrian versus the other Ice place locally. Their sour flavor is a spray on. Not very sour and sporadic. Two service staff members. Female was great and friendly. Male was a bit gruff and seemed flustered by long line of people waiting. If you are around it is worth trying. We may give it a second try.
