Bidra med feedbackVery loud! Excellent food and service though!! I ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Tender and perfectly flavored. My husband ordered the 10 oz New York strip steak. He had to salt the steak quite a bit to get a good flavor. It was also served with mashed potatoes and an undetermined vegetable that may have been shaved asparagus and probably some kind of leafy green.
I love this place. The wait staff is great. My only complaint is that the chairs are somewhat uncomfortable and the noise level can be high when crowded. But the food is wonderful and is reasonably priced, thank you very much.
I made the dinner reservation (6 adults and a baby) the morning of and our table was ready right on time. The restaurant was lovely welcoming, spacious and comfortable. Having a high chair for my seven month old grandson was super helpful. The goat cheese salad was presented beautifully colorful, fresh delicious! The fettuchinie was fantastic, a refreshing take on a traditional pasta dish! We all thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered! I appreciate a creative menu with quality ingredients at affordable prices. Of all the restaurants we visited in Palm Springs, Grand Central was our favorite. We will return and highly recommend!
Went for the Soul Food dinner. Ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer and the chicken as the main dish. I was excited to see that cornmeal was the coating on the oysters, but the oysters were overwhelmed by too thick a coating. A light coating is the key to great fried oysters. With these, you mainly tasted the cornmeal. The chicken was over-spiced (go lighter and dry. Turnip/kale greens side was good; the mac cheese was past its prime. The cornbread was not sweet (yay! and fresh from the over. Dessert although tempting was outrageously priced. I've attended both soul food dinners at Grand Central. I think that I'll stick with Brown's when I need a good soul food fix. Finally, we sat under the low ceiling to the left of the entrance. You could not hear yourself because it was so loud. As the crowd filtered down so did the noise. If asked to sit there on a full-night, I would decline. I've only eaten at Grand Central for the two soul food sittings. Therefore, I'll recommend the restaurant despite being somewhat disappointed in last night's fare.
The special evening with a CaliSoul menu prepared by Chef Betty C. Berrysmith was wonderful. The food was sublime and the service was very good. The noise level in the second dining room was the only drawback of the experience, as I couldn 't hear my dining companion throughout the evening.
