Bidra med feedbackDecided to give this place a try since it's an easy walk for the Doctor Phillips Center where had show tickets. Made a reservation through Yelp just in case. Got there about 545 for 6 reservation on a Saturday. The place was packed with Orlando City fans since a game was scheduled at 630. A server/hostess told us it would be about 15-20 minutes for a table I told her that was fine but we had a reservation in case. She seemed to shrug it off but they were crazy busy with what looked like maybe 3 servers and 2 bar staff. We were set a little before 6 anyway as there was only one other group waiting. The place is decorated nicely with Bavarian theming. A few long tables, traditional tables and high tops on the bar area along with a small outside patio. Server was attentive and answers any questions. They have daily beer specials with $4 half liters. If you like good, strong, dark but sweet beer the Optimator is your BFF. We split both an appetizer for two with some amazing meatballs meatballs, ok potato pancakes and pretzel that needed a bigger cup of beer cheese and the feast for two with braten, pork knuckle roast, sausages, sauerkraut, red cabbage and cheese spaetzel. It was much more than enough food and probably the best braten I've ever had. The pork roast was massive but fairy fatty but also had a crisp skin that when you found the right part of meat was super moist and delicious. The only downfall was the platter was not quite piping hot like it may have been sitting for a while because we had the appetizer too. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert. We were able to get out of there for around $60 for two people and in plenty of time to make our show. This may have to become a new pre-show tradition!
A solid German restaurant/pub in the downtown area. i stopped by Schumann's the other day to grab a bite of lunch. Located in the heart of the Church Street District, Schumann's is a German restaurant that I had found myself walking by time and time again without actually stopping in to see how it stacked up to other German spots. After having lunch here last Tuesday, I wish I had known about this place sooner. When I arrived, a very nice bartender/waitress named Gigi greeted me and told me to sit wherever I wanted. I decided to sit at the bar since I was looking for my lunch to be as quick as possible. Gigi brought me a menu and went over some of the various options they had available. They have all of your schnitzels, sausages, and other German favorites, but I decided that I wanted to try their cod. It isn't easy to find cod downtown for a decent price, so a cod meal for under $15 seemed like the ticket. While waiting for my meal, Gigi and another waiter told me about the restaurant. They have apparently only been around for about 3 years, but they have already been rated as the second best German restaurant in Orlando, behind Hollerbach's Willow Tree up in Sanford (a point that really seemed to irk all of them). However, due to the declining foot traffic on Church in recent months, lunch business hasn't been great (which explained why there were only 3 other people in the restaurant around noon). The restaurant itself really goes out of its way to be authentically German, so they told me that they try to focus on providing good food rather than marketing tricks that other restaurants use in the area. After a few minutes, they brought me out my cod and confirmed their contention about good food. The food was perfectly cooked, and the little half crispy/half noodle things under the cod made for a fun mixture to go with the fish. While the cod wasn't the very best I've ever had, it was still really really good, especially for the price. After I finished my meal, Gigi urged me to tell everyone about the food. I have to admit that, if you want German food or cod, this seems like the place to go if you don't want to go to Sanford. Overally, Schumann's is a nice authentic German restaurant with fun authentic decor and solid food. While I still think Willow Tree is a tad bit better overall, Schumann's has earned its second place standing and is definitely worth checking out.
I love this place. I've been at the bar in a cozy twosome and at a long table pushed together to accommodate a large birthday. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable. The only bothersome thing is the occasional dumb patron. Yes- you should try some German beer, yes- you should branch out with some authentic German food. I literally heard a patron arguing with the bar staff that he just wanted a bud light and a burger (get out man). Hope this place stays forever. Check out their pit specials and try something new!
I've only been here a couple of times, but some friends are regulars here and have only said good things about it. The food I've tried has been really good, and it's nice to see they have a full bar, and some good beer selections as well. I should also mention their drink specials are pretty good as well. Considering the location I would have expected an annoyingly busy place but this wasn't the case. They have a steady clientele but everybody seems nice and friendly, unlike too many people you can run into on Church st.
You ever get tired of eating the same food over and over again?? Yea me too! So after work I decided to skip my usual taco time and opt for something a little different. After walking a block or so, I stumbled upon this extremely well decorated establishment. I love the vibes and cool hangings on their walls. Looks like it would be a great after party venue for a wedding or special occasions. At the same time, it's perfect for meeting a buddy for a quick drink after a long day. I had the pork cutlet with mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. The pork was good enough, nothing to rave about. Mashed potatoes were pretty good but I was a little let down by the Mac n cheese. Not too flavorful or cheesy. The bartender who doubled as my server was great! Super nice, patient, and kind. Answered all of my questions with a smile and never made me feel rushed. I like the place, just will try something different on the menu next time.
