Bidra med feedbackWe used to go here a lot about 5 years ago and it was very good back then. So on a return last night for takeaway would it live up to the memories? Well, not quite.<br/ <br/ It 's not the most attractive place and on a busy stretch of Oaklands Rd it can be a trick to get a park. Inside it 's, well, cosy might be a good way of saying it.<br/ <br/ Ordered the usual suspects: butter chicken, lamb rogan Josh, samosas, pakoras, naans, rice plus a 'mixed grill ' made up of fish, prawns, kebabs, and so on.<br/ <br/ $60 and change all up.<br/ <br/ I was told it would be '20 minutes '. I had time to drive up to the Supermarket on Marion Rd, find a park, do a bit if shopping, drive back to the restaurant and still had a good twenty minute wait before it was ready. From my experience and from other comments on here I think any wait times they tell you might be more hopeful fantasy than definite reality.<br/ <br/ The food was good. Not great, but still good. There was plenty of flavours and the curries were rich and thick.<br/ <br/ There were some niggles. The Naans came in a sealed paper bag and were limp and a bit soggy by the time we got them. The mixed grill came with a fish tikka that, surprisingly, was still raw in the middle. In fact the mixed grill came coated in so much bright red curry paste that it was a bit hard to taste anything else<br/ <br/ But one thing was very odd. When I was ordering I tried to order some papadams and was told 'No need to! We 'll include complimentary papadams. ' which I thought was very generous. When I got home there was a plastic bag with two papadams inside, which, as compliments go is fairly faint praise.<br/ <br/ Here 's the thing. Just a few minutes drive from our house is the fabulous Hub Tandoori Nepalese restaurant. Would I drive past the Hub to get to Delhi Spice? Well no. And that 's the thing.
Service is great. Food is amazing. Have been a few times before. Took Mum this time who was visiting from QLD who can be quite picky. Mum loved it.<br/
Don't listen to the pish posh poo pooing by others about this place. Most things get better with age. When this place opened 6/7 years ago it was renowned to go over the 30 40min wait recommended for pick up, but seemed to worth it because we were super satisfied with huge tick of approval. But in the last couple of years they picked up their game and you will have your order ready pronto when in the time recommended. I hate take away, but the one restaurant I do order from when I do, is Dehli Spice <br/ <br/ Flavour wise, if you're looking for a quintessential Ra on the Taj or Jasmin standard, you are looking in the wrong place. This business caters for all us plebeians it's got rich flavour, and each dish goes a long way. Some dishes are watery (dahl some aren't (meat curries , but duh that's the dish, and who tf cares when it's so satisfying and at a great price? If you want super heat in your hot curries and not getting it, get them to add extra chilli (I add chilli to everything so no curry house can please me or my husband there sorry dudes! .<br/ Have tried other Indian restaurants that have popped up in the area and just gave up based on over salty, over oily, over gristley, or not enough flavour. This business is my only family go to favourite
4 of us ordered 4 curries to share, naan each and 2 large rice, and less than 20 bucks each? This is not a joke! Fantastic food on a cloudy autumn day! Will be back
Not the flashiest looking Indian restaurant but a great range of yummy curries and naans at a good price. The place is always pretty busy as it's a pretty popular takeaway spot but the service is quite reasonable. My go to dish is the chicken palak!
