Bidra med feedbackThe experience would have been improved if there had been a volunteer available to assist us in boarding the train. On regular days, it's understandable that a volunteer might not be present, but given that there was free admission to the entire museum for a festival, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect at least one volunteer at each station. I want to mention that I chose the free admission option as it was part of the festival celebration.
The reception was very pleasant, and they took the time to explain the layout of the place to me. I particularly enjoyed the little cowboy area, the train section was fantastic, and the antique cars were really impressive. Joe, who led the firearms department, was exceptional. We spent quite a bit of time discussing guns. Overall, the staff and volunteers were very friendly; I just can't recall all their names.
We absolutely love this place! It's such a fantastic museum. My boys are completely fascinated by the small train models that travel around the different tracks. However, I do have one concern: there is a particular staff member in the Browning pistol section who doesn't seem very patient with children. I want my kids to enjoy learning at museums and have a positive experience. While he hasn’t directly interacted with my children, I've witnessed him with others, and it seems he expects children to wait until he's finished speaking before they can ask questions. I understand that kids can be a bit eager, but I think it's important for staff to be accommodating and understanding, especially since the kids are interested and attentive. Overall, everything else about the museum is wonderful—it's just this one individual who stands out to me in a not-so-great way.
Do you have a train lover? This was a wonderful museum, full of great train information. For cost it is worth what you pay. It wasn't too busy, but it wasn't packed. The look at the old trains was cool, including reading about them. The trip includes entry to a mini car museum: cool, but underwhelming. You said there was a new director who hopefully would live up the auto department. There is also a Browning pistol section. Good information about the weapon/company through the years. Our trainer lover and family had a good time.
Cool spot/museum to visit if you enjoy learning about trains. There were several full size trains displayed outside. They also had a classic cars and firearms exhibit. Museum is located downtown Ogden so it's very close to other places/eateries to visit.
