Portobello Restaurant - Oakland

I went to Portobello’s a few times over the past thirty (30) something years. It was always a well-decorated restaurant on both its inside and on its outside. There was a large parking lot. The waiter was decent, and while the prices for the meals were not cheap, the patrons got a lot of bang for their buck. The chicken cacciatore was delicious, and I also loved the complimentary bread baskets.

Portobello's offers a delightful dining experience with a beautiful ambiance and delicious, fresh food. The attentive and friendly waitstaff contribute to a relaxing atmosphere. The generous portions ensure a satisfied palate. Highly recommend trying out Portobello's for a memorable meal.

Attending a daytime family gathering of 50 people seating failed to take advantage of large windows at the front of the building. Instead tables were crammed into a dark, badly lit alcove on the first floor. Food quality and plated presentation failed to impress with slopped on sauced penne in a bowl and colorless undecorated mains. If only there had been some inspiration in the bland saucing, the cook may have redeemed the uninspired plating. Service staff seemed confused on how best to serve and when. I have eaten here before and enjoyed the meal but the combination of the inside experience and the empty and messy out of season parking lot pergola for outdoor season makes me wonder if the restaurant needs new ownership.
