This charming, cozy countryside pub is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere. The homemade food is absolutely delicious and has that comforting taste of a home-cooked meal. Don't miss out on the pub quiz every Wednesday at 8pm – it's a fun and inclusive event that everyone can enjoy!
Upon arriving at the restaurant with our family friends, we were greeted by the bar staff and shown to our table. However, we soon realized that there were no menus provided and it was self-service at the bar, something that could have been communicated to us. When we inquired about the fruity ciders available, we received a blunt "no" without any suggestions for alternatives. Our order of three steak pies and pesto pasta ended up being disappointing, with the pies resembling beef slop with a pastry lid and the pasta tasting like it came from a store-bought jar. Even adding salt and pepper didn't improve the lack of flavor in the dishes. The only surprise with the pasta was a tomato garnish cut into four chunks on the edge of the plate. As we quickly left, we overheard the bar staff telling another customer that it was too late to order food at 7:45pm. It's unclear how this restaurant manages to survive, especially when considering its previously positive reviews. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
Haven't been here for quite a few years so didn't know what to expect. Nicely decorated with good atmosphere and large garden. Dogs allowed. Very helpful barmaid. Good, varied selection of food and beer for such a small pub. Not very busy but food took a long time to arrive; I take that to indicate that it is largely freshly cooked to order. Tomato and vegetable soup was rather bland not much tomato flavour. I realise that it is difficult for small pubs to remain viable, but I feel that the landlady really needs a bit of help in the kitchen to speed up food preparation.
Following a walk in the woods we were looking forward to a Sunday lunch here, but this was not an option. We chose the pub as it is advertised as dog friendly and it was, however we were underwhelmed by the food which was average and not the treat we had been hoping for. Staff were perfectly friendly, we just got the feeling that the place wasn't fulfilling its potential.
