Castle Hill Inn - Newport

We have loved eating at the bar at Castle Hill, but this past week was a real downer. If you eat outside at the restaurant, you are no longer allowed to use the indoor restroom and are required to use the port-a-potty in a hard-to-find, and if at nighttime, a poorly lit location. The bartender explained that management decided that if people are spending $700 for dinner inside they don 't want people coming near them on their way to the indoor bathroom. Discrimination? And the rocky and unlit steps lead to a tiny trailer outhouse (most weddings have nicer ones than this) with a door that opens out, so if you are ascending the unsteady stairs and someone is coming out (in my case, the cleaners) the door opens in your face and you must back down to let them by. And there are no amenities at all other than TP in the outhouse. It 's an outdated outhouse, it 's ugly and it shakes. Clearly, this management team has no formal hospitality training and the policy seemed to even irritate the staff to the point of apologies galore but frustration with their inability to take action. Oh, and if you eat outside, you can 't walk inside to go out the front to your car. You must navigate a poorly lit, rocky path to the valet. Which, even they admit, is too dark. I 'm hard pressed to give these guys another try. At least get a nicer outhouse, put some flowers and amenities in it and put it in a bright location. All in all, there is no more obvious way to say We don 't care about our customers. That message spreads like wildfire.

Such a disappointment the last few times we have been here. We have noticed the food has gone down hill. This last time we had a hamburger that was supposed to be ground sirloin that was dry, tasteless and full of gristle and didn’t resemble any hamburger I’ve ever had. The Steak Frites, which is usually very tasty, was completely different from the last time we had it, and not prepared the same way, it was raw, in spite of requesting it medium, and the meat was tasteless and a poor quality. We love to come here, but the last few times have been such a disappointment with under cooked food, poor quality, and most recently served cold and unappealing. After two bites I was nauseous and sick for the remainder of the afternoon. We won’t be back for anything but the view and drinks on the lawn Castle Hill needs to try harder! However, I must say that wait staff was exceptional and very apologetic that our meal with such poor quality. 116$ for an upset stomach SMHFood drinks: Food quality has gone down hill

Amazing views and great drinks. We only came here for a pre dinner cocktail and to check out the views but would love to stay here! Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff was very welcoming. Would definitely come back here in the future!Rooms: 5/5
