Sumo Japanese - Newbury Park

My mom and I love this place! Very good food and everyone is always so friendly. Food comes out quick. One of our favorite sushi spots!

After paying $125 in take out plus 20% gratuity (even though it was just take out order), they squabbled about wanting to charge me 25 cents for 1 oz of teri sauce and ginger. The front hostess woman was rude and stingy, even though we have tried to be generously supportive always giving 15-25% gratuity even through COVID take out only to help keep them supported. The value and customer care has gone way down. I will drive to Camarillo for their competitor’s sushi because of such bad business practices at the Newbury Park Sumo.

This has been the best food I've had in the area since visiting! Although my dataset is small (n 8), most experiences in the area have been real bad. This restaurant, on the other hand had fast service, reasonable prices, and good sushi rolls!

We have been to this restaurant multiple times in the past and never had any problems. However, yesterday's experience was highly unsatisfactory. It was our son's birthday, and we chose to celebrate here. What a colossal mistake. The server seemed friendly and took our order promptly. We ordered simple dishes, such as salmon roll, sashimi, and tempura. Although the shrimp tempura arrived quickly, that was the only dish we received for the first 35 minutes. The boys started complaining about how long it was taking. The server came by and said they were working on it, but it was evident that they were prioritizing other tables over ours. Meanwhile, the table next to us left, and they seated a new group of people who were served different types of rolls before us. When I called out our server, their excuse was that the new customers ordered rolls that could be made with other tables, so they received their orders first. This was unacceptable, and I was infuriated. The server tried to compensate by bringing some ice cream for my son, but that did not make up for the inconvenience we faced. If it weren't for the ice cream, my son's birthday celebration would have been ruined. Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed and will not be returning to this place again.

Great food however there's a canopy that blocks their shop. So park walk to find. That canopy needs to go.
