Bidra med feedbackThe first thing you encounter when opening the front door is the aroma of roasted chicken. I had no intention of ordering the chicken before I opened the door, but as soon as we got in, it was a non-brother. If it tastes half as good as it smells, we were for a treat. Started with the Hush Puppies who were good from this world. And the chicken definitely tasted as good as it smells. Southern Kitchen opened its doors in 1955, which means they have been in business for 67 years. I'm not surprised!
We always stop here when traveling from Maryland. The food is fresh and served hot, lots of menu options and wonderful deserts. Lots of seating and little to no wait time, servers are friendly and helpful. Great place to eat and beats all the interchange places like Mc burger , taco!
We stopped for breakfast and I had high hopes on reviews. The place needs a facelift and a fresh color. It could be a fun 60's, 70's themed restaurant with Formica table tops, old-fashioned milkshake machines and soda fountains on the counter. But the juke boxes at the tables didn't work and the big TV doesn't make any sense at all. The bathroom was dinghy. As for food, it was very simple and bland. We ordered two omelets. In no one was the cheese melted. The bread was good, but the coffee was weak. The prices were reasonable for what we have. Our server and hostess were very friendly and friendly. I'm sorry I can't recommend this restaurant. Maybe lunch is better.
The peanut soup!!!! Excellent. A must if you go. The fries are super crispy, and the homemade meringue pies are incredible. We had to try two- lemon and coconut, both so delish! A huge layer of meringue, I wish we would have taken a slice to go home. Friendly staff, real diner atomsphere, and go for a walk down Main Street- some very cool little shops to see. We will definitely go back to try the fried green beans, granola pudding, and the malts!
I really liked this off the beat and path restaurant. We got off of interstate 81 into this cute little town called New Market VA. The town itself just screams home cooking!! I got the fried chicken and It was one of the best I've had hands down. My husband got the sirloin tips and he really enjoyed them as well. Every thing we had was really good. The service was also great I must say.
