Excellent dinner with Neapolitan atmosphere.... Recommended
Sadly, this restaurant is a shadow of its pre-pandemic self at its old location where the photos were taken, and where it gave a lavish fixed price dinner coupled with a musical show by an ensemble devoted to Neapolitan traditional music. I attended once, and was very impressed both with the music and the extensive participation by what seemed to be local regulars, some of whom even contributed their own solo performances, quite good. So when in town I recently reserved, and went back. When I entered the new venue, I noticed a tiny platform stage with a keyboard, but nobody performing, so I asked the waiter when the music would start. He said it was not yet certain whether there would be any music, which is the main thing I had come. I began eating my ordinary music-less meal. Eventually, a single musician showed up, with a guitar, and started playing in the background, and later added his own singing and strolling among the diners, but with very few joining in. A single waiter for about 40 customers was overworked, and service suffered terribly, with no attention to me after my initial serving. I did flag him down to request a second glass of wine, which he never delivered, and I finished my meal wine-less. From its lofty past, which probably generated many of its rave reviews, it seems it has now degenerated, perhaps as an aftermath to a pandemic shutdown, to just another tourist restaurant, except with a guy playing guitar, with a little singing. Hardly the touted Neapolitan spectacular it once was. Next night I went to see NAPULITANATA, a new musical group of spectacularly talented professionals dedicated to traditional Neapolitan music, which I found fantastic, and even better than the original iteration of 'A Canzuncella.
