Good food and good service. Escargot were served in very non-traditional. Setting. French onion soup exceptional.
The service at this restaurant was exceptional. The food and pastries were delightful. The prices were very reasonable. The interior decor was charming. The staff truly made our dinner a special occasion, reminiscent of the dining experience you would find in France.
We absolutely adore this restaurant - the bistro food is fantastic. The onion soup is delightful and the beet salad is delicious. We tried the salmon and beef bourguignon dishes and both were excellent. Don't forget to save room for the fresh baked goods for dessert.
This bakery is fantastic for breakfast, lunch, or a coffee and pastry, but not for dinner. This is our second attempt at having dinner at la Colmar. The first time was okay, but the second time was disappointing. My wife ordered the beef bourguignon, which had a smoky sauce that was too heavy and beef that lacked flavor. It was also lacking in vegetables and served with a large portion of mashed potatoes. I ordered the duck, which was overcooked and dry. The skin was crispy but lacked flavor, and the meat was extremely dry. While I understand that cooking duck perfectly can be challenging, it is something that good restaurants can do routinely. When we returned most of our plates uneaten, there was no inquiry about why we were dissatisfied. Eventually, the chef came out to check on our table, and when we mentioned the dry duck, he explained that his customers like it crispy. He said he would try to accommodate us in the future, but we are not inclined to give it another chance for dinner. It's a shame because there is clearly effort and investment put into this place, and we were hoping for an authentic French dining experience. In the future, we will stick to visiting the bakery.
