Bidra med feedbackThis place is well worth a visit steeped in history and with a different dining experience! We did the self guided tour of the caves which gave you an insight into what the caves were originally dug out for, some fossils found in...the caves and then the process of mushroom farming from when it first began, up to the modern era. Unfortnately we had eaten before coming here as the fresh mushrooms being sold smelt delicious and were crammed with cheese and herbs! You have to book into the resturant in order to eat them though, rather than sitting on the terrace outside in a more casual format. There are steep steps up to the entrance of the caves, but there is disabled access available if needed.
We had lunch in this troglodyte restaurant in March 2016, easy to find along the Loire near Montsoreau. The creamy potato shiitake soup was phenomenal and the three giant stuffed mushrooms (les Galipettes) tasted so good; we chose fromage de chèvre frais (our favorite), saumon,...et escargot for the fillings. My dessert was an ancient recipe served in the evening when returning from the fields: bijane aux fruits de saison (water, bread, red wine with fruit). There was also a champignon glacé which was vanilla ice cream with a chapeau meringué and chocolate sauce. Excellent service, beautiful atmosphere. The shop and museum are worth the visit.
