Beretxu - Molins de Rei

Externally this place looks like a small bar and in fact the bar area at the front is very poular with locals. Through the bar area there is a dining area with a few tables. Although smallish in size the restuarant has an excellent choice of tapas and main dishes. We chose the lunch time fixed menu which was excellent value for money. Despite being busy the service was friendly and efficient. If you are looking for somewhere to eat local food with local people this is perfect.

Two people Wandering around Molins De Rei in the evening looking for a small bar serving tapas, we came upon Bar Beretxu and, having read some positive reviews, decided to give it a go. We were warmly greeted by Oriol, the chef/owner, who explained that tapas was the only food offered at the bar and then guided us through the extensive menu. We shared chicken croquettes (shredded chicken and mashed potatoes rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried and prawns and garlic cooked in hot oil, which was delicious when mopped up with slices of thick cut bread. Both of these are traditional tapas fare. The final dish we tried, on Oriol's recommendation, was the most deliciously soft and flavoursome pork strips on a bed of mashed potato/cabbage mix (bubble and squeak to those in the know! . All of the food was well prepared and tasty, and needed nothing added to it. How every, if you have a large appetite then you would probably need more dishes. The food was washed down with local beer and wine from the extensive bar and the meal finished with Irish coffees which Oriol now knows how to make after phoning a friend and a few tips from us . The only reason for not giving the final star was the bill at the end of the meal which seemed a little high. However, we are early into our holiday and if experience shows that the prices are reasonable, we will revisit the score.
