540 on Barkly - Melbourne

Simon and his team at 540 on Barkly were a pleasure to work with! They made sure I was happy from the start to the end of my experience, keeping me informed about my bar tab and food service throughout the night. I highly recommend 540 on Barkly for private functions, as well as for lunch, dinner, or a quick drink. A big thank you to Simon, Andrew, and the rest of the team for helping me host a fantastic event. I am grateful for all they did and will definitely be returning, and recommending them to my family and friends.

I stumbled upon 540 on a chilly Tuesday night in Melbourne and immediately felt a welcoming atmosphere. The staff appeared to be happy and enjoying their work, the music was great, and I had a delicious steak dinner. There were many patrons enjoying drinks as well. I liked it so much that I returned on Friday night (despite the cold) and found the mood to be even livelier. The place was busier, but there were small details that made a big difference. One of the staff members saw me walking around and held the door open for me. When I was handed the menu, a staff member took the time to recommend some specials. They also suggested a delicious hot cider for me to try. I enjoyed both my meals, the service was top-notch, the prices were reasonable, and the place had a cozy Cheers bar vibe. Even though it was my first time there, I felt right at home and would love to make it my regular spot instead of traveling across town.

We have eaten here recently. the room itself is good with a good space between tables. the place has a beautiful mood. we enjoyed the glowing wine and the warm apple wine. the waiter sold us how wonderful the steaks are, but we had two...cloud fillets at our table, and both were chewy and had a little gristle. the sale site certainly did not correspond to the delivered product. they were cooked on request, so that is a good thing. overall, eating was good. the waiter should probably not call any female customers “Mumma”. it was strange, unpleasant and not necessary. we'll try it again.

The coffee here is excellent. the menu will satisfy most with at least one item to please. I had the vultures that were charged to Hasch-Braunen. the vultures, the hollandaise and the ham were on the square, but the haash brows were understated. it is the second time of eating. this dish and both paint the Hasch brews were undercooked. if they prefer their hash-browns cooked (as I do) I recommend choosing this dish with sourdough instead of the hash.

Such a great cosy restaurant with amazing food. Had the calamari....yummy. Great service and very friendly will go back again
