Bidra med feedbackCame here for a friend's birthday lunch. And if the occasion arises I'd be glad to come back here again. We started with the Selection of dips (4 in all) and they were very well made, served with Pita Bread and chargrill toasted French stick, that worked very well. Then we had some mains. The menu is not large by any means. but there is something to suit almost all tastes. It's one of those a few WELL Made dishes rather than a mass of average. I had the Pork Belly and Scallop dish.. it was so tasty. light, fresh, meaty
We came to Woodstock on a Friday night for their wood Oven pizza night. It's $35 a head, all you can eat Woodfire pizza (three choices) and a entree and dessert. The entree consisted of pate, soft cheese, olives, pita and sourdough. It wasn't the biggest plate to share between the 4 of us, but we didn't mind as we were keen to eat the pizza. Pizzas on the night were Smoked Ham, the mushroom and roast pumpkin with caramelised onion and blue cheese. Our fav was the smoked ham- cheesy, crispy and the perfect amount of toppings. The dessert was a chocolate icecream with berries- it was a rich chocolate flavour and tasted like mousse. YUM! There's live music here in Friday nights, the bloke who was there was very good and played right until the end. The perfect spot to have pizza, or if you're after mains during the week and weekend they have a gorgeous restaurant. Winos will love their quaint cellar door with a big tasting list. One of my favourites about this place is the setting- in the scrub, has its own park with kangaroos, lovely lawns, play equipment and rolling vineyards. We can't wait to come back!
Not only is this an idyllic spot to visit for a cheeky cellar door tasting, they offer a plethora of other services which will have you frothing to hold your next festivity there. I have been to Woodstock on several occasions and the most recent was for the wedding of two very good friends. I have spent a great deal of my professional life organising functions weddings being the most high pressure of these events (even the meekest girl has the ability to turn into a raging bridezilla) and I was absolutely floored with the organisation, affability and professionalism of Zak the restaurant manager and the woodstock crew. We had an alternate drop menu, chosen by the bride and groom. Every dish was delicious and maintained a very good standard (not quite as good as their unique, rustic a la carte menu, but it's impossible to acheive the same level of finish en masse). The restaurant at woodstock is called Coterie and is in the unique semi circular building where the reception was held. The space features an open fire in the middle of the inner wall. On Friday evenings they do a pizza night, nom, nom, sundays they have live jazz and there are Llamas over the back fence! Great novelty factor. I would not hesitate to recommend woodstock as a must do Mclaren Vale destination. If you're into rose the Grenache rose is one of the best Reds The stocks Shiraz is a boys fave my pick may be the Octogenarian, grenache tempranillo
The Friday night pizza is a winner. They were pretty flexible with the pizzas and the entertainment was lovely.
Good cellar door with the Pilots View Shiraz the absolute standout (already had a sneak taste of their 2012 and it 's incredible). So why only the 3 star review. Well, it 's for the restaurant, and actually for one dish on their menu, 'the tasting plate '. The menu is what one might expect from a typical restaurant anywhere else really with no major surprise either in price or quality. The tasting plate though is a rip off! At $50 I have to say we expected something that was frankly, well, twice as good one would get anywhere else where such a plate is typically about $25. But that was not the experience. A small bit of meat and pate, about 6 olives, some chutney and a rather small and cheap goats cheese. Throw a few bits of pita bread and a couple of mushrooms on the plate and that is it! Kind of a joke. Like I said, definitely go and taste the wine at the cellar door, buy some even, I 've bought plenty myself. But like not getting water on a gremlin, simply don 't order the tasting plate and even do a good deed and tell them it looks like the rip off it is.
