Bidra med feedbackWhup 's was our 77th stop in Texas. You will run out of pavement before you get here, and parking is sort of casual. Place your order and pay at the window (cash only), and they will call out when your order is ready. There is no indoor seating ... just the odd picnic table. The restroom is basic, and the pit is far from elaborate. You can check it out, and talk 'cue with the pit boss. This is BBQ the way we like it. $28.42 purchased a loaded potato (brisket, sausage and cheese smothered in sauce), a mixed 2 plate (lean brisket, a gigantic pork rib, sausage and link) with store-bought sides of baked beans and potato salad, and servings of banana pudding and peach cobbler. The sausage and link are decent--good snap and good heat. Both desserts are up to the mark. But the signature feature here is the rub, which stays far away from the kosher salt/pepper application that is so common in central Texas. A bit of cayenne pepper and a bit of this and that coat the meat, but produce a bark that allows the meat flavor to shine through. This works well on the rib in particular, which in our judgement is the meat you really want to try here. As is so often the case with lean, the brisket needed sauce; we sampled Whup 's, then reached into our grab bag for a sauce with more bite (Tyler 's, from Amarillo). So, a worthwhile stop. Where Whup 's could really step up its game is with the sides, and with the sauce.
We ate lunch here one day we were in Marlin...there is only 1 way to describe this place...ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! Large portions and everything is delicious!! Definitely going back next time we're in town!!!
Brisket is smoked perfectly, chicken was finger licking good! Just had a few bucks so I gave em all I had, the pit master overhead I had not been prepared for this epic event. He snuck me a few cracked German ring sausage pieces, priceless. My wife ate all the beans and Cole slaw, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I saw where the magic happens in a shop-made smoker, this is the real deal in quality of preparation. I left my moist towelettes at home.
Just off the highway, this is a real jewel. The brisket is second to none. The sausage, ribs and chicken are really good too. I wouldn’t leave Texas without coming to WHUP’S BOOMERANG. Love the service too just good people serving up good food.
