In the hospital, the food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly.
The food was dreadful. It's surprising that a hospital would offer such a poor dining experience.
This review is for the cafeteria at El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, previously known as Los Gatos Community Hospital. Surprisingly, the food here is quite decent for hospital fare! If you check their website, you can sometimes find the daily specials for the week. Each day typically features one protein dish and one vegetarian option, with specials priced around $3-4. Sides, which usually include rice or bread and a vegetable, are about $1 each. If daily specials aren’t your thing, the grill is open seven days a week and serves delicious hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers, including a tasty black bean option on occasion. They also offer basic hot deli items. Although it's not listed on the menu, you can request sweet potato fries (Garnet yams) when you place your order, and they’re priced the same as regular fries. Additionally, there’s a fresh salad and sandwich bar available daily, along with pre-packaged options like sandwiches and sushi in the fridge. I’ve visited many hospital cafeterias throughout the Bay Area while my friends and family were hospitalized—thankfully for non-serious reasons—and I can confidently say this one is the best. I’m giving it 3 stars because, while the food is good, it’s not out-of-this-world, so don’t expect Michelin-star quality. Lastly, please be respectful to the staff; it’s disheartening to witness how some people treat the employees here.
