Bidra med feedbackWe had a lovely lunch at the River Room- the surroundings were relaxed but luxurious and the staff were impeccable. The food was of a very high standard with generous portions. Thanks to everyone for their professional and warm service.
Lunch from the set menu was sadly disappointing. The staff stood around chatting, so after waiting for twenty minutes we asked someone to take our order. Apparently the conversation was riveting, as it took them another five minutes to come over. The set menu is very average food, with small portions, and side orders are needed if you 'd like to see a vegetable. We had two glasses of indifferent wine £15 for a small glass) and were given bottled water asked for tap) at £6.50 a bottle. There 's no bread offered, and no finesse with the service, which given that an automatic 15 percent is added to the bill is disappointing. It seems that The Savoy is trading on past glories, and presumably thinks this is 'good enough ' for the many tourists that come in wearing t-shirts and trainers
We spent our wedding night at the Savoy 39 years ago. When we visit London, we typically stay at a club but will often return to the Savoy for lunch or dinner. For this trip we decided to visit for breakfast and as the web page had no provision to reserve for breakfast I emailed over a month in advance. The reply I received stated that reservations are not accepted but that we could just turn up, and at worst there would be a short wait. I called a week in advance of the desired date and was told the same thing. On turning up at 9:00 we saw a restaurant at around 10% of capacity but were told that due to their being very busy they were accepting only hotel guests. Fortunately, when I kept pressing what I had previously been told, the employee consulted her supervisor who was far more understanding and we were given a table. During our 80 minute stay the restaurant never exceeded at the very most 25% of capacity.
Never that sure about a Ramsey managed restaurant, but ! What a superb venue , super staff, beautiful decor, friendly and very professional service. The food was first rate from the starters through to the moist delightful turkey and stunning deserts . Six or was it seven courses and we spent four hours here taking in all the sights although the restaurant was only 70% full. Wines are pricey as is the food . But you pay for what you get ! Stylish, luxurious and a special treat .
I always have a degree of trepidation going to a restaurant just after it has opened. But when Gordon Ramsay is at the helm the signs are good. The layout is pleasing and staff do their utmost to please. Fish and seafood dominate the menu so we went down this route for starters and mains. All delicious as was the chilled White Burgundy we washed them down with. Decadent desserts accompanied by a glass of Sauternes. All in the sumptuous surroundings of the Savoy. All in all a delightful treat at a time when we all need to indulge ourselves.
