Sopra Bistro - LAKE GENEVA

Had an an incredible meal and experience at Sopra Bistro. We had a reservation for 2 at 6:30 on a thursday. We showed up on time and were promptly seated when we arrived. We were taken to a table upstairs, which I initially wasn't thrilled with, but it ended up being awesome since upstairs was a little quieter than the main room and the 2nd floor windows offered wonderful views of main street. Our server was Calvin, who was friendly, knew the menu extremely well and offered fantastic service for the entirety of our visit. I started with a cocktail which featured a chipotle tequila which alone would have made the night a success--it was that good. I had the octopus with fennel salad as an appetizer--it was subtly wood smoked, tender, and delicious. My partner had the fried goat cheese--also incredible. Main entrees were the scallops (reported by my partner to be the best she had ever had, anywhere) and I had the fried duck--also amazing. We finished with desserts that were also incredibly well composed and balanced in terms of flavors and textures. I had read the mixed reviews of this place and wasn't sure what our experience would be, but I am so glad that I took a chance because our night was amazing--5 stars for all aspects of the dining experience. I will definitely be back and will recommend Sopra to others looking for an elevated dining experience in Lake Geneva.

If I could give our visit 6 stars, I would. Our server, Michele, treated us like family and gave us stellar recommendations. You won’t be disappointed if you spend an evening here.

Sopra Bistro had the highest rating among online reviews for “fine dining in Lake Geneva”. My husband and I came here for the (first and only) time for our anniversary in July 2024. Despite making a special request with my reservation that they make it special somehow for our anniversary, nothing happened other than being greeted with a “happy anniversary” at the host stand. The swordfish with lemon caper sauce was very good. However, my husband‘s meal, chicken confit, highly recommended by the waiter, was essentially tasteless. The waiter took it away because he did not finish it, but did not offer to replace it w another dish. The setting was classy, although too loud that night for an intimate conversation. Our waiter was good — I’d give 4 stars for his service. Disappointed with the food and lack of response to my request.

The entrees took a very very long time to come out. The waitress didn't come over to check on us and communicate the delay in the kitchen. The food was good but not outstanding. We were hoping to be comp'd in some way for the long wait on the meal but we're not.

We rated the restaurant a 2.5. Will probably never go back. Our waitress was great... drinks were mediocre, food was okay, actually the bread was the best part. Also, I did not know that to be seated downstairs you needed to say something! I obviously made it very clear when reserving that we were celebrating our anniversary and it didn't matter. Again, we rated it a 2.5 because the drinks and the delay in things.
