Bidra med feedbackAbsolutely wonderful host and delicious food will be back
My two little kids (10 and 8) and I decided to venture on an impromptu visit to the ADKs before school starts. We booked the stage coach ride, cooking class, and beer tasting (for me, not them...lol) in addition to our hotel stay. This place delivered on every front. Cathy was lovely and especially wonderful to my children during the cooking class and we learned a ton! Ernie knows his beer and I can appreciate someone who is as enthusiastic as I am about it! He even sent us home with two very cool and interesting beers at checkout! The dinners were phenomenal! Their son Jurgen was out waiter both nights and he was especially attentive and again, super kind to my kids. Having worked in the restaurant business myself, I know dealing with little kids isn't always fun or easy. Everyone was great! It was all so lovely and fun and I would go back in a heartbeat!
The beer tasting was interesting, with six different samples. I just wish the servings had been 5 ounces instead of 3 ounces. We also opted for the sprout as a side dish, which was huge and fresh and made from homegrown ingredients. After that, we sat in the cozy atmosphere and enjoyed a plate of goat cheese snacks, a beer from their cellar, and a sidecar cocktail. Then it was time for dinner. We had the house soup, beer bread, tomato salad, and our main courses: the sauerbraten with spätzle and the chicken schnitzel with potato pancakes. Both dinners also came with corn and red cabbage. We were completely stuffed, but we couldn't resist ordering a slice of marzipan cake for dessert. The next time we return, we’ll try the accommodations!
Consider carefully before reserving this venue for a family gathering or business meeting. Unfortunately, their organization, planning, and communication leave much to be desired. While many positive reviews indicate that they handle small groups or casual diners well, I want to express my concerns. Although I’d like to support this local family business, it's important to note that if they continue operating without addressing their organizational issues, it could result in wasted time, money, and a disappointing Adirondack experience.
I had dinner with a drink, and the total came to $125 (without any appetizers or desserts). This was far too expensive for a meal that was only average. The rice was not cooked properly and was dry. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the overall experience did not justify the price.
