Fidel's - La Costa

The fajita's are a joke $15.50 for beans with 3 4 pieces of chicken. The quesadilla disgusting. Way too expensive try Jackal's next door no comparison. Would not take AMEX never again !!

Yummy, food is HOT! and delicious. Try the chicken burrito which is simply all white meat chicken stuffed into a tortilla then covered with a sauce. Oh so good. The salsa is definitely acquired taste, but when you get it, you got it! Great margaritas too!

OK, so I know you shouldn 't judge the quality of a restaurant from one visit. And that 's why I went twice. You see, I 'd heard people rave about Fidel 's for days, months, years. Apparently the tortillas are like manna from heaven, and the carne asada is sheer milk and honey. So I gave it a try. Not once, but twice. Big mistake. Allow me to give some context. We San Diegans, we know our Mexican food. It courses through our veins. I mean, heck, we have FAST FOOD Mexican joints (aka Rubio 's that knock the pants off of any Mexican place east of Bakersfield. So we 're a tough crowd, I admit. But even San Diegans told me that Fidel 's was one of the best joints around. So I had to try it. First, the chips and salsa was disappointing. Chips were stale, salsa was spicy but unflavorful. It 's as if they tried to compensate for the fact that you 're eating straight water and vinegar by making it EXTRA HOT WATER AND VINEGAR. Either way, I 'm not impressed. Then the main dishes were a disaster. Cold. Not very well prepared. All the cold ingredients on one side, nothing very well mixed, all of it pretty much slapped together. The lemonade was good. Of course, that was also the only thing that wasn 't made on site. Later that night I got sick to my stomach. Not to go into too much detail, but we 're talking Pepto-chugging sick. It was a fitting grand finale to the meal. I went back about three weeks later, thinking ;Surely that had to have been an anomaly. Surely a place with such a fine reputation couldn 't be that bad. ; And it was. Every bit of it. Same stale chips and lame salsa. Same poorly prepared food. Only this time I didn 't get sick. Things are looking up for Fidel already. :
