TeppanYaki Dan Sheraton Maui

Our table side chef Jay-Mar put on a great performance and cooked our food perfectly and with great flavor. One of the other chefs at a nearby table was way too LOUD during his cooking performance which was distracting and limited normal conversation at the dinner table.

Very nice food. Good service. Only issue: they need more A/C in room where cooking happens. Sitting at 80 degrees with hot soup, a fire the chef used for cooking, plus sake, had our faces dripping of sweat. Not very comfortable. There was an exhaust overhead of course but it was not enough to keep the smoke from cooking away from us waiting for the food. It’s fun though with a group of people that know each other to use a whole table. As you know, if you are a small party you are amidst strangers dining together.

This grill needs more acoustic damping to properly record the cooking show that goes with dinner. It is very loud, everyone with hearing aids is really disturbed and have a difficult time. Hearing the staff is even more complicated by waiting. Employees who continue to choose to wear masks . My mother had a very difficult time with her hearing aids getting information to order. I don't complain about the show noise .. this is to be expected, but there is a lot that could be done to improve hearing and minimize reflections in this hard landscape decor; the entire area is like a small cabinet with four or five cooking tables with all hard surfaces and no windows is very claustrophobic. The food was good, but over salted and added too much soy sauce, so see your cook while they cook and you monitor that otherwise, you end up with very salty and very soy sauce heavy cooking.

The chef was enjoyable, however the overall experience was super loud!!!!! The banging and the yelling were throughout the whole dinner, which made it anything but relaxing and definitely not enjoyable. My 5 year olds were freaked out for the whole dinner, which resulted in them eating nothing and clinging to me/hiding behind me. So, I wasn’t able to eat either. Definitely don’t recommend for young kids or anyone looking for a relaxing dinner. They did give the kids little chef hats, which was super cute. Food was okay (not like traditional hibachi we have back at home, though). Wouldn’t do it again.
