Great interior, very cosy. Alcohol barring the wine is heavily overpriced for the area. A lot of beers and whisky's were out of stock. Didn't eat there but going by the menu which is a dirty a4 piece of paper I am not expecting much.
Enjoyed an amazing birthday brunch yesterday, on the rooftop of Nine Barrels, which is called the Q Bar. To get there you walk up the stairs through an art gallery, just another way to enhance the experience. On arrival we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne, which we enjoyed while taking a great look of the fantastic view of the city. <br/ <br/ We started with a great selection of tapas, difficult to pin down our favourite but we ordered 4 of the 8 on the menu, and each had a great quality about them. They unfortunately didn't have the camembert dish but the salmon was an amazing substitution. <br/ <br/ For our main dish we had a fantastically prepared steak and chips, it was superbly tender from start to finish, and to add to the service, the chef came out personally to make sure everything was okay. <br/ <br/ <br/
The Nine Barrels at AGOG is a charming rooftop restaurant in Maboneng (new Doornfontein) with one of the most comprehensive champagne, whiskey and wine lists in the country BY THE GLASS. <br/ <br/ We were rewarded after climbing several staircases (to the roof) with lovely rooftop views across the city, some tapas bites and a relaxed environment to watch the world go by on a beautiful summers day! <br/ <br/ On the service side, Anthony is incredibly helpful and knowledgable. <br/ <br/ Onto the food: <br/ AVOCADO CAPRESE BRUSCHETTA: Avocado and tomato salsa topped on a freshly baked bruschetta topped with fresh basil. Our portion was really tiny, but the bruschetta were tasty. <br/ POTATO CROQUETTES: Crumbed Belgian potatoes tossed with thyme salt. <br/ They were sadly out of the cheese croquettes that I was desperate to try, but the potato croquettes, for me were the best item of all the tapas that we ate, and are a must-try!<br/ THE NINE BARRELS CHICKEN WINGS seasoned with their secret sauce which tasted like a combination of mustard, honey and lemon. <br/ Vegetarian FLATBREAD: Mushroom, caramelized onions, rocket and goats milk cheese.<br/ CHEESE BOARD: A selection of local imported cheeses with poached pear, honey, walnuts,<br/ hazelnuts crostini (as per the menu), but you will see from my pic that what we in fact received was not this... Four pieces of toasted french loaf, some strawberries, nuts and cheese. The cheese was delicious and paired perfectly with our wine. <br/ <br/ *Recommendation: For a taste of Maboneng, art and rooftop views all thrown into one, you cannot go wrong with giving The Nine Barrels a try! I can definitely recommend having the Potato Croquettes. <br/ <br/ For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook Twitter: LaurasWorldza
