Running Chicken - Irvine

Jook on a rainy day was exactly what I needed, but I ran into an issue with the pricing. I checked the menu on Yelp from about a month ago, which listed the dish at $13.99. When I got to the restaurant, their physical menu had it priced at $16.49. It felt a bit misleading, especially since the owner posted an updated menu just a month ago. I understand that everyone is struggling with inflation, but what really frustrated me was when my order was rung up at $17.25. It seems I should expect prices to be about 30% more than what’s shown in the owner's Yelp photos from a month ago.

This hidden gem never fails to impress my friends and family! The spicy chicken with garlic sauce is packed with umami and just the right amount of heat—it's the perfect comfort food. And their chicken soup is absolutely incredible!

Absolutely awful food, and the restaurant itself was filthy. I can’t even comment on the service since there didn’t seem to be any dine-in option available. The tables were dirty and pushed into a corner with chairs stacked on them during lunchtime. The only person working was a kid at the cash register handling takeout orders. I’m not joking—when I opened the front door, a cockroach scuttled in with me. I hesitated about picking up my phone order, but I saw a Chinese girl leave with takeout in a BMW and thought, maybe it’s one of those hidden gem places with amazing food despite the grime. Unfortunately, I was wrong. We were craving Hainan Chicken Rice, and this was the only spot nearby that had it on the menu. What they served had nothing to do with authentic Hainan Chicken Rice. The chicken was tasteless and poorly seasoned, and the rice was just plain white rice—nothing cooked in chicken stock or infused with any flavor. Frankly, I wouldn’t even mind if the food was mediocre as long as the place was well-kept, but this establishment has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, except for providing someone with a job. It's just a disappointing experience all around.

I was looking for a late dinner takeout and decided on the cheese baked rice with pork cutlets. For $20, I got a box of rice with shredded cheese which is definitely microwaved (not baked), with a few small pieces of pork on top. It tasted stale and horrible. My son and I shared the rice and guess what?! We both had the worst diarrhea all night long. Other family members who did not touch the rice were fine. He says no wonder it 's called runny chicken . Great menu with poor execution.

So many fake reviews here..feels like this place is run by Amateurs. Chicken isn't cooked thoroughly. Some of the items I ordered was not fresh. Classic fake reviews Update: what a joke since I posted look at the fake reviews since, oh that's right they pay yelp for bunch of sponsored ads , gotcha
