The Purple Cow - Hilton Head Island

AMAZING baked donuts and muffins and coffee cakes! The donuts are baked, not fried, so have a texture that is more dense/cake-like. They also have a variety of other baked goods: I highly recommend the chocolate cinnamon roll- YUM! Tips: order ahead or go very early as they close when they sell out. Also, if you do not order ahead, keep in mind your order is capped at 1 dozen items.

The donuts were amazing! I know they advertise they are baked vs fried but honestly it didn't seem that big of a difference than a normal cake donut. We got ours gluten free vegan (except for some non-vegan toppings...hello, bacon! to accommodate the gluten dairy intolerances in our family. We made sure to email our order the night before and everything was ready at 9 am. My only complaint is they don't have a location near me in Florida!

Arrive early! My niece and I walked over a mile in the heat (totally our fault) only to arrive to cookies, muffins and scones leftovers. After cooling off, we ordered coffees (yes, lol) and she had a muffin and I had a scone and both were delicious. They have a boutique space where you can buy little Purple Cow trinkets and the space was very cute and welcoming. The staff was pretty welcoming and friendly.

I’m sure the donuts are great but they were sold out and only had a few baked goods left, none of which were good. The blueberry muffin was beyond dry. After biking a few miles to try this place, we had to sit outside because a child was having a birthday party in the only indoor seating area. We were looking forward to some AC and some treats. I hate to leave a negative review for a small business owner, but it was just an odd experience to say the least. I will say the young lady who took our order was very sweet.

If you want donuts go early or preorder. That being said when we arrived at the purple cow at 9:30am they were completely sold out of donuts. However they offered to make me 2 fresh (for my sons birthday) and it took about 20mins. They were so accommodating to us! The donuts were fantastic and made his day. My daughter and I got iced coffees that were equally as good. The whole staff was so amazing and really made my sons day.
