The Hillside - Hillsborough

Great wee spot in Hillsborough. Food was good, service efficient and managed to get a table on a Sunday late afternoon without booking. Dining area at the back is open and more contemporary with a more rustic and cosy bar area at the front with an open fire. Nice and quiet, no trouble hearing conversation, although I would like to experience the live music some time, which I believe is on Wednesday nights. Kids menu was especially good with a decent selection and good portion size. Prices overall were as I would expect, not cheap, but not overly expensive. Will go again. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly, although no colouring offered as standard

Amazing food! One of the best meals we have had out for a long time. Beautiful fresh fish, lightly battered with minted peas and fresh chips and the burger with onion jam also delicious . Will definitely be back soon! Parking: Pub is located on the main street so parking can be difficult at the weekend but lots of parking a short walk away. Just leave time to get parked and walk to the pub. Food: 5

Arrived into the hillside and went straight to the bar to ask if they were still serving food as it was around 2pm. This was no problem asked the bartender could we sit anywhere which she said was fine, as it wasn’t very busy and plenty of tables available. No menus were given, had to go and ask for a menu, after stating we were in for food. Starters were lovely and came out in good time however sat in front of us for quite some time without being cleared. When are mains appeared one was completely wrong, staff were able to get the correct main after the issue had been voice. I had basically finished my main by the time my partners meal had arrived. Same thing happened for dessert..wrong dessert came out as well from what we ordered. My partner had finished his dessert by the time mine had arrived. During are meal no one came to ask if everything was okay, some basic training is definitely need for front of house staff. However food was lovely.

The food was nice and well cooked however what we ordered was not what was delivered. The mushroom risotto had no mushroom, the pork loin was a pork chop and the prawn cocktail was a pathetic 6 or 7 prawns. There was no atmosphere and the service was rubbish, waited for an hour for our main meal. I would not return. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
