Toohey's Butchery Bistro - Haiku

We were in Haiku and stopped at Toohey's to pick up some steaks. The 2 guys working the counter were so friendly. They had just prepared fresh cuts. The steak was delicious. We almost missed the shop. It's tucked away (if you are on a dirt road next to main road you are in the right place). Definitely worth a visit!

The service here is personable and fun. The meat I bought was fresh and delicious!

Stumbled here when they were closed on a rainy afternoon. I hadn't realized that the place was closed until I was told, but someone was kind enough to still sell what was in the butcher shop! Two beautiful tomatoes were purchased, the most expensive tomatoes I've ever had mind you, and they were worth every penny. I never bought an off the vine farm fresh tomato, so the two from Toohey's were a special treat. As someone who has had multiple unsuccessful attempts at growing tomatoes (the dang pesky birds), I was excited to cook with a super fresh one for the first time. If only I could have purchased some meat, but I was off to another restaurant thereafter and did not bring a cooler.I was told that you can buy from the butchery during bistro hours. When I get an opportunity to dine at Toohey's, I will get some meat after my meal. If there is other produce available, you can bet that I'll make a purchase.

Nice enough guy, but not a man of his word, when I brought my pig to get butchered and sealed, I was given the run around. Said he was doing me a favor and that we could trade meat for work done, said he could do it in a day, that turned into two days then into 3 days. I finally just took the meat that was untouched for 3 days back and packaged it myself, took me 45 minutes. When you tell someone you can do something then go back on your word after 3 days, where's is the integrity in that?? Just say your too busy, that would be the reasonable thing to do, right??Wasted my time by not calling me back or texting back, wasted my money because i had to drive there multiple times to see if the job was done, it wasn't. I come out to Maui about once a year and won't be coming back to this place.

Appear to now be closed on Sundays.Posted hours at the shop appear correct(closed Sundays).Need to update hours on their website.Was looking forward to getting some good local meat for dinner!Next time.
