Vintage 38 - Greendale

Odd and uncomfortable experience. My wife and I both in our 60's along with my son and his girlfriend, both 24 and my younger son and his date 19 wanted to stop at Vintage 38 for a drink after dinner at Ricardo's. This was around 10pm and there was virtually nobody in V-38 at the time. We were refused service because of the 19 year old's in our group. They actually wanted to split us up and have the younger couple leave. Very off putting. In all my years I have never been refused service for havening my children with me. There is no law in Wisconsin that requires this and it is obviously house policy. 2 stars because I have been here in the past and enjoyed it. But this put a downer on the evening. Not likely to return.

The atmosphere is great and they have a good selection of cheeses.Unfortunately it seems to be run by someone without a lot of experience going to wine cafes. There's no bread served with the cheese and the only fruit is dried apricots. It's surprising not to have grapes or dried cranberries. They serve sparkling wine and champagne in Bordeaux glasses rather than champagne flutes, which is really weird. They also serve their flights in small decanters rather than glasses, so instead of trying each side by side you have to completely finish each one before starting on the others. Makes it really hard to compareIt's a decent stop, but they need to take some lessons from places like Thief Wine

We had a nice time there! Enjoyed the atmosphere and wine. Friendly service at the beginning. One woman came in who worked there and was a bit rude to us. We ordered a flight and were sitting and chatting for awhile. She came over to take our glasses away then 5 min later asked if we were going to order anything else. It was the vibe she wanted us to leave. There were open tables and other people were there the same amount of time. I guess because we drank our wine faster and didn’t have a glass in front of us? Wasn’t a huge deal but really surprised me. If there’s a time limit, it should be posted on the door.

Cute atmosphere. I felt invisible at the bar. Fun wine flights but pretty much go to the bar and flag someone down.

We have come here a decent amount and always enjoy ourselves. We haven't experienced much of the food but got the chips and salsa during our last visit. I was really surprised we got a whole jar of salsa and bag of chips. Both were great and we were glad we could bring the rest home to enjoy.
