De Lauzan takes modern French cuisine to a new height. The balance of flavours and textures of each dish was exceptional, and the discovery menu we chose was just that - a journey into creative and sensitive cuisine, where each dish brought together elements that complemented and enhanced each other. It is hard to find the right words without sounding pretentious, so all I can say is.....taste for yourself. Also worth mentioning is the presentation of the food which could well be described as culinary architecture - beautifully designed to reflect the various ingredients.The service was welcoming, warm, cheerful and efficient, and the cost very reasonable for such calibre of food.The only negative is the decor, which is bland and lacking ambience. While the food eclipses that of other restaurants in the region, the restaurant is competing with other small town and village settings where terraces and views add value to the dining experience. However, the owner has recognised this and so I will be curious to see the results of his recently announced plans to move to new premises.
One of our favourites! We go there every year and enjoy amazing food, great local wines and a lovely atmosphere at a very reasonable price. This is first class quality! Don't miss it!
Tis restaurant is situated right in the centre of Gignac so not difficult to find. Went on a very hot day so the absence of a shady terrace was disappointing.The service s very slow and not well coordinated - we had to wait the best part of 20 minutes before we could get a drink.It is expensive but at lunch time there is a 31 euro 'formule' which offers two courses (entrée and main course or main course and dessert) which we chose.Having been given some amuse bouche which were tasty, we started with a roulade of goat's cheese with courgette (there was no choice) which was beautifully made with an interesting combination of flavours. For the main course there was a choice of either meat or fish and we opted for the fish which was dorade - again beautifully cooked and presented.The desserts are disappointing and certainly not worth the 15 euros which they cost.The wine list is overpriced - a bottle of rosé at 27 euros and a glass of red at 7.50 euros.The total bill for two came to about 100 euros.To summarise the food apart from the desserts is very good, the service is not and for me it lacks a certain ambiance.
I’ve always admired Matthieu’s food but occasionally felt that it was trying just a little too hard – overcomplicating the presentation or sometimes simply putting one too many ingredients on the plate. Now his fertile imagination and invention seem to have calmed down and found a real maturity. The service and the pace at which food leaves the kitchen have also moved up a notch. There was often a definite – sometimes bordering on tedious - lull between main course and dessert, almost as if early tables couldn’t get pud until late tables had their starters. Now everything seems to flow without rush or delay.I must get back to going regularly!
