This small town dive bar restaurant is surprisingly good. Boon, the owner who also serves as cook and bartender, is very friendly but hard to understand (possibly Vietnamese). Half of our group ordered burgers, while the other half opted for the huge tacos offered on Taco Tuesday. My burger was delicious, but I couldn't help but envy my friend's massive taco. Boon mentioned that she will be bringing back the Oriental buffet on Thursday nights in the fall. If we find ourselves in Garber again, we'll definitely make a stop to say hi to Boon and indulge in some delicious small town fare.
Anchor Inn, owned by Boone, is one of the few remaining businesses in Garber. She has a loyal and friendly customer base, with many driving from miles away to visit. Guests can enjoy a bottle or can of Bush Light, a Boone Burger, and maybe some cheese curds and mini tacos. It's common for someone in the bar to buy you a drink or two before you depart. Anchor Inn is truly the Cheers of northeast Iowa.
I recently dined at this cozy little spot and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of root beers they offered. From classic brands to specialty craft versions, they had something for every palate. The drinks were perfectly chilled and paired well with my meal. I highly recommend trying out their selection of root beers during your visit. You won't be disappointed!
