I had a colleague in town from the Islands and wanted to find a restaurant with great flavor before he left town...and Island Spicez did not disappoint! Was so good, I took the family there for dinner the same day! Also, grab a bottle of hot sauce while you're there.
First time having curry goat and it was delicious ?. Everything was so flavorful.Parking: It’s located in a shopping center.
THIS IS THE BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD. I once maybe woulda thought NYC, NOLA, and LA had the best food, but then I came here for lunch. Chef is a genius. Oxtail, curried goat, curried shrimp all mind blowing. Even the lemon yellow cake on the counter was the single best piece of cake I've ever had. The flavors here are big, savory, fresh, complex, and left us all wondering when we could come back and eat the rest of the menu. No fancy place with a table cloth or whatever has ever made me this happy. Island Spicez and its chef are a gem. So overjoyed we found this place and cant wait to come back.
Overpriced oxtail, $27 for large and $20 for small. This is at least $10 more than most Jamaican restaurants. The lady said the price of oxtail went up but this was 2 years ago and prices have since dropped so she is lying. You can get oxtail for $9 a pound at Fowler meat and fish market a couple mins down the road from there. I know this because i buy oxtail all the time to make. If i didnt drive 30 mins in traffic to get there i would have walked out when she told me the price. On top of that the food was not that great. I love supporting black owned businesses especially Jamaican ones since i am a Jamaican but not when they're ripping people off.
