Bidra med feedbackThere are so many things I love about living in Florence. Unfortunately there is one thing that spoils it far too often and frequently brings me to tears and that 's being conned as a stranieri. Having had numerous caffe macchiati at this out of the way cafe since we first discovered it in 2016 during a short visit to Florence, I really didn 't expect that Todo Modo would be one of those places . It 's always been a gem. My husband went to the bar today to order our 2 caffe macchiati, €2.40 in hand. When he tried to pay, the lady behind the counter said, no, I 'll bring it over. The alarm bells went off, but he figured we 'd been there often enough that they were just being nice. After all, there are still some places in Florence that we go to that have avoided the tourist trappings, especially where we live on the other side of the river. But alas, this was not to be! Having carried the cups back to the bar area, when we tried to pay, we were slugged €4. When we questioned this, we were shown a strip of paper at belly button height (and I 'm short), saying there was a charge for table service. Yes, I admit it was our own fault for being conned, for not knowing better and pushing back. But I cannot help believing that it was a very deliberate action on the part of the lady taking the order as she prevented my husband from paying and on the cafe itself as a sign at belly button height is hardly visible to adults. Sadly, for the princely sum of €1.60, we won 't go back to enjoy the air conditioned solitude of this cafe. We will not invite our friends to join us there for an aperitivo. More than that, it has reinforced how difficult it is to live in Florence as a stranieri.
Im studying abroad here in Florence and am always looking for a good spot to get some work done. I went here and had a pleasant experience. They have a wide selection of book choices and the ambiance was amazing. There are a good amount of seats if you want to come here by yourself or with some friends. The staff was very nice and helpful when ordering a coffee which was amazing! Overall I had a good experience here and would definitely come back to get more work done!
I love the concept: books, books, books, plus a wine bar and snacks to order! It's a great place to browse (and it has a section of books in English). But the food we ordered was essentially tasteless, so that was a disappointment. Maybe it was just that day?
I love this place because I could find Machiavelli and Dante both in one place and both in English. Imagine buying these Tuscan writers in Tuscany. They have many more English language books too, and Italian of course. And in a crowded city like this with no place to relax and unwind they have that. You can sit and read. It's too crowded in the rest of Florence to really find a place where you can do that.
Todo Modo is a great local cafe/bookstore for studying, having drinks with friends, and having a relaxing time reading! The ambiance inside is great and you are surrounded by books and plants. Their music selection is very good and it adds to the great atmosphere inside. The coffee they serve was great, however they did not have many food options. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, this cafe/bookstore was a great experience and a must if you are in Florence!
