L'antica Torre - Figline valdarno

I feel a bit bad about giving an average rating here but 'very good ' would definitely be overdoing it. L 'Antica Torre looks rather upmarket, as do the prices on the menu but I found the service, the standard of cooking and, indeed, the clientele (including myself) told a different story. Not that any of that was bad. The service was friendly and fairly efficient but very casual (e.g. waiting staff standing around chatting). The food was not excellent but it was good. The ambiance was informal amongst my fellow diners, there was no sense of a special treat at a fancy restaurant I guess most of them had just stumbled upon the place, as I had. All of that actually suits me fine. It just wasn 't what I expected when looking in from outside. It would probably make more sense if the décor and style of the place matched its ambiance more closely but that 's not really important. My real reservation is about the price, for which I would normally expect a really superb meal, rather than just a good one. Notch up the cuisine or notch down the prices and I 'd add another star.

All in all average: location, food, staff. Prices ok. Hence ok to go for a dinner, in case not you will not miss anything.

The access and front room of this restaurant might not be fancy or impressive, but they more than make up for it with the food and the service, which is what is important. We were not pleased with the restaurant at our hotel, so we decided to venture into town. We kept walking past this one so we decided, what the heck. It was empty because it had just opened, but soon after we sat, the place started to pack. The second they placed their spotless glass and silverware on our table, we knew we were unto something good. From then on we had a great experience. Pizza is great, so was the pasta. Drinks are affordable. But above all, the service was homey and friendly.

Posto divertente al centro alle figlie. la pizza è deliziosa. le tagliatelle con ragù toscano sono super!
