Bidra med feedbackThis was an organised stop as part of an organised day trip to La Palma. Fixed menu lunch with bottled water and an unlabeled bottle of red wine on the table (never a particularly good sign) Starter was goat's cheese in breadcrumbs, then there was salted ham flank in a garlicky oil dressing served with potatoes and corn on the cob. Finished up with a bowl of custard, or as the other couple at our table proclaimed, Creme Anglais! Mass catering but definitely nothing to shout about. Service was good, given that there were 2 people serving two coach loads of people. About the only redeeming factor.
Very good tapas for a good price. Nice people and a good place to stay after a walk in the national park the Taburiente. Bus stops there.
After checking positive reviews and opening hours, we walked from our accommodation. We like wine and didn't want to drive. A pleasant 20 minute walk. On arrival the place was locked up. The notice on the door confirmed opening hours and declared it closed on Mondays. This is Thursday. It was 7pm....We had to walk home and rustle up some dinner ourselves, but since we had planned to eat out it wasn't great. Won't be back.
This building seems to have sat empty for just about all of the time that I have been visiting La Palma (14 years), so last month I was pleased to see that it has now reopened as a restaurant. Inside, the restaurant is well decorated, with scenes from the island, as well as of the local wildlife, including the “grajas” (red-billed choughs), some of which I could hear calling just outside as I ate. There are 2 murals of what could be called folkloric representations of the landscapes of the island, again including flocks of “grajas”. Some poems about the island complement the wall decoration. Enjoying walking and birdwatching in the area just north of the restaurant and the visitors' centre, which is just across the highway, I ate here twice during my recent holiday on La Palma. The menu isn't large but the food is good. The first time, I had a cheese platter and a very filling bistec de cerdo (pork steak), which was served with the Canarian speciality papas con mojo rojo and salad. With 2 bottles of Dorada beer and a coffee the bill came to €19.00. I had a smaller meal on the second occasion, lomo con pimientos (pieces of pork mixed with chopped peppers). As I ate my lunch, other people dropped in for coffee or a beer, the restaurant being a good place to stop on the way across the island. There is a shop selling local products next door to the restaurant, although I didn't visit it; hopefully another time. Information on-line states that the restaurant is open from 09.00 to 18.00 and is closed on Sunday. By the way, when I finished this review the address details had not registered that the restaurant is in the Municipality of El Paso, although I had typed that in when registering the address. The restaurant is by the highway east of the town of El Paso, on the way to the tunnels and the Cumbre. Going from Santa Cruz and the Breñas to El Paso and Los Llanos, you will see the restaurant by the left (south) side of the road.
