Solas - Eilean Siar

I’m afraid this was one of the worst meals we’ve had in a long time and probably the worst tapas we’ve ever had. The staff were lovely and the restaurant vibe is nice. But the food was pretty much inedible. We would not recommend it to anyone.

Was expecting far more choice of seafood on the menu so was disappointed. A formulaic menu for package holiday guests. The mussels were fantastic cooked with white wine and cream.

We came for a long lazy lunch before the 1500 ferry. Both a very generous portioned children’s menu and small plates/starters and mains for the adults. All meals were lovely. Fresh local scallops, 2 pieces of haddock with the adult fish and chips for £17. For a family of 5 we ate incredibly well and also thought it good value. A sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and the children enjoyed Mac n’cheese and sausages. If you come here you won’t be disappointed.

What a great place! The service was impeccable and the food was great. We were very pleasantly surprised as we booked last minute and there was plenty of availability always a worry! We shouldn’t have worried as it exceeded our expectations. The staff were attentive and friendly, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was nice too. Highly recommended and I will return next time I am on this beautiful island!

What can I say.... the best food and service in Stornoway. The chefs' here know their trade! The pork belly, polenta chips, featherblade beef, curry, honey roasted veg and onion rings were all cooked to perfection and presented very stylish! Good portion sizes too and all reasonably priced. If you want to make any improvement try pickling your onions for your onion rings they make them 100% more tastier. Sticky toffee pudding and burnt honey cheesecake were very tasty and beautifully presented. I particularly liked the chef being creative with his puff pastry liquid on the base of the cheesecake this was unique and quirky. Service was great and the restaurant is warm, cosy and stylish! This place serves better value and more superior quality than The Royal. Worth the 5 minute journey out of the town centre.
