Bidra med feedbackThis restaurant is a must-visit attraction. The village has been beautifully restored and offers a variety of designs, from the original ones without chimneys to later modified types. Some of the houses can now be rented for self-catering. The location is stunning.
Really interesting history of weaving cutting peat and black houses. This is also a youth hostel and might be nice to stay in one of the houses. Excellent small cafe serving specialties like oatmeal herrings and salmon dishes.
As is usual during the Scottish summer today was a bit breezy and drizzly. But it just added to the character of the Blackhouse Village. Our year old was enchanted and loved watching the loom and the video about peat harvesting. We loved the views and I was really impressed by how roomy and comfortable the mock up was. I could live here! Really enjoyed our time
I had to pay to enter, but the entrance price wasn't too bad. Inside, there was only one building to explore, which housed a live museum. A man in the black house was spraying air freshener and wiping tables with it, which seemed odd and not historically accurate. The other house had a TV playing a documentary about black houses. The rest of the village buildings were rented out and off-limits to visitors. Overall, I paid to see the black houses and a man spraying air freshener, which wasn't what I expected. I wouldn't visit again if I had known what to expect.
This restaurant review provides a captivating look into history! The exhibits and buildings offer a great sense of village life, making it well worth a visit. For more, be sure to watch our Outer Hebrides vlog series on YouTube. - Mac and Sarah
