The Triton Inn

Just moved to the area so was really looking forward to eating at The Triton as eat out regularly. Booked for Sunday lunch. The carpark was almost full which I thought was a very good sign. We were greeted at the door and taken through to a room next to a function room, which I think there was a children's party or Christening on. We ordered a roast port and roast beef lunch. The food appeared within 5-10 minutes of ordering which was okay but we hadn't even received our drinks! There was a bit of confusion with the meals as the waiter though the beef was chicken only to return with it and it was the beef. The meat was the same colour as the pork which was a little odd. Not seen that colour beef before! The cauliflower cheese was overcooked and luke warm, not very good as cost £5 extra. The guy on the mext table said he had been given the wrong meat and his childs meal was not what they had ordered. The pork dinner was nice but I was not happy with the beef. Didn't complain about the meat as I looked at a few others and they looked exactly the same. They cleared our plates away, they didn't ask if we wanted any more drinks or a desert. Felt like we were in a canteen at soft play with the noise from the function room. I had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, to find someone complaining. I will not be returning. Very disappointed as could have been our local.

So disappointing …asked to preorder for our group of 12,starters did not arrive together 3 hot starters were finished before the rest arrived ,one order was missed off the main course order and when rectified was served cold .The food was not up the standard expected of the cost for the meal.

Had our annual Boxing Day meal at this lovely pub, got sat down straight away and it was a pleasant surprise to see a fairly standard menu available, not just a set Christmas one, the haddock fish cakes went down very well and the Asian duck salad was a delight, everyone enjoyed their mains but the standouts were the spiced pork belly and what was one if the best steak pies I’ve ever tasted, portions were a good size and we will 100% return in the future

We had a lovely meal. Warm welcome, superb food and service. Empty plates all round. Well done everyone

We visited a few times whilst staying in the village and enjoyed a tasty meal on Saturday evening. It was very busy but lots of friendly young attentive staff on hand. Love that they brought the food out on large trays so it's all served at the same time. My husband had the burger which he said was delicious, I had the steak pie which was disappointing, meat was very tasty but the pastry was rock hard and inedible. I didn't complain as everything else was delicious, but the lady who collected our plates, possibly a manager noticed I hadn't eaten the pie and kindly removed it from the bill. Visited a few more times over the week for a drink and luckily it was warm enough to sit outside. On one occasion we did ask if we could pop inside for a drink, the lady who I think is the manager looked quite shocked and had to check the booking diary to see if she could accommodate us. This was 5pm and only two tables were occupied. Such a shame as this is described as a beautiful country pub but in my opinion it's more of a restaurant. There were no comfy fireside/bar chairs to enjoy a drink, no locals at the bar, too many bright lights and all the tables set up for dinner service.
