Royal Bengal - Dunfermline

After experiencing a few disappointing meals at another Indian restaurant in Dunfermline, I decided to give the Royal Bengal a try. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The rice and bread were good, but the three different curries we ordered were poor. They lacked taste and depth of flavor, and were very watery.

This is the top Indian restaurant in Fife. I have been dining here for more than 30 years and have yet to find a better place.

The food is really good just a pity that lengthy waiting times are off putting. Our main courses did not arrive until we had been in for 105 minutes and we weren’t even asked if we wanted more drinks after our first order was taken. The restaurant said they were a chef down but if they can’t cope they should not fill up every table and continue to take takeaway orders. Really disappointing.

I ordered and paid for a take away meal for four people on a Saturday night and opted to collect the meal. I did this online well in advance of my collection time. The web site stated a 20 minute wait for collection from placing the order. At the time I chose for collection I arrived a few minutes late but the meal wasn’t ready. I was asked to take a seat in the restaurant which I think is off putting for the diners. There were several others waiting for meals and quite a lot of comings and going for take aways. I was told three times that my meal was just coming in the 25 minutes I had to wait. I spoke to someone I knew who’s take away was actually waiting for them when they arrived. They had phoned in with the order and were told to wait 40 minutes before collecting. Why does the web site say 20 minutes when it is obvious they cannot achieve that deadline. Are they short of staff or are they just taking orders knowing they can’t fulfil the commitment. Having said that the staff did apologise when the food eventually came explaining that they were busy! The food was good and I will return but phone in my order and receive a more realistic time schedule.

Eight GOM from DHS (1956) ate there today for lunch. They opened early to accommodate us, and we were all impressed with the quality value of the meals provided. The service was also excellent. I am sure we will be back in future.
