We visit frequently. The Volunteer Arms is a comfortable, lived-in, pub. They serve freshly prepared food and good local beer. The smoked haddock is the best plate of food in town.

I visited Volunteer Arms for food. The portion of black pudding sausage starter was extremely small and I couldn't taste any black pudding in it. Overall, I was very disappointed. The fish pie was more like fish soup with a decent amount of fish, but the vegetables were lacking with only 2 small broccoli florets, 1 small spoon of turnip, and 4 green beans. I ended up getting a burger to fill up.
