Bidra med feedbackVery conveniently located if you want to walk into Matlock bath. Room 5 has a lovely big bath which was nice although the furnishings were a bit oddly placed the room, the wardrobe is difficult to access due to a bed settee being placed next to it but it was clean and bright. I did notice as we booked that continental breakfast was included this was cereals, yogurts, fruit, toast and croissants sadly no meats or cheeses. We didn't eat at the hotel as we booked to see the illuminated boats and illuminations which took place between 6-9pm which was unfortunately the same times they serve dinner. The only criticism was at breakfast we were brought tea/coffee then had to ask for cups and milk!
My wife and I booked this hotel because it was in a convenient location between Matlock and Matlock bath. We arrived early for check in and were told our room wasn't ready and couldn't have it till 3 pm as it was the rules, any other hotel ,it would have been ready,so we had to kill time in town for 2 hours. The young guy on reception gave us an envelope with our check in details ,even though we couldn't check in and told us to choose breakfast for the following morning .We booked this hotel cause breakfast was included, I thought cooked breakfast but no, it was only continental breakfast, had to pay for full English, which I wasn't happy about. The room was nice and tidy, the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was nice.It did look like it had been decorated in a hurry, with socket extensions screwed to the walls instead of proper sockets in the rooms and they had a heater on the wall which didn't work ,so they put a space heater in the room , which is a fire hazard . I wanted a bath ,but the plug was faulty and the water kept draining out . We slept ok ,but there is a lot of traffic noise . Breakfast was served in a dining room that looked like a school canteen. On being seated ,you were given a plastic tray with your cups, plates and cutlery (lay your own table) .On the last day our cooked breakfast was cold, we complained and was given money off the bill.On checking out,we didn't even get a goodbye. Overall, we will not be returning, the whole hotel lacks any rustic charm except for the outside and we found the whole experience very sterile and the staff very uncommunicative.
Enjouyed the guest beer in the hotel bar service was excellent and beer was lovely and cold. Would recommend for a drink after a day exploring.
We stayed here just one night mainly due to the position... the reviews were mixed so we had an open mind ... on arrival the first thing we noticed was it looked closed.. but it's an old building and just didn't have any obvious lighting ..the walkway and drive were thick with leaves which made it very sloppy but it is autumn.. the manager Connor is this places main asset as he is very polite and attentive.. we were shown to our room which was lovely .. there were a few cleaning issues that he attended to as soon as he was aware.. the bar area is small but cosy ..the dining area is very nice but unfortunately these were empty .. it is about 15 mins walk to both matlock and matlock bath.. breakfast myhusband had the full English and it was a large portion .. it could be so much more but I would definitely go again
Stayed here before for 1 night about a year ago with friends on a motorcycling trip. This time with family stayed for 4nights. The hotel is a great location and comfortable. Very pleased with all aspects of our stay. We had a family meal on the Saturday evening for 6 people and the food was excellent in quality choice and presentation. Well done High Tor. The hotel manager, Connor, gave such good and personal service he deserves a very special thanks for making the stay memorable.
